Erskine started as a small village on the banks of the River Clyde and was once an agricultural area that can be dated back to 3000BC. The original village cannot be seen today but there are still a couple of iconic buildings including Erskine House. The house in 1916 became The Princess Louise Scottish Hospital for Limbless Sailors and Soldiers, there is still a modern unit for veterans on the site today. The hospital was sold in 2004 and was converted into Mar Hall Golf & Spa Hotel. Erskine still has a close connection with the Hospital today.
Erskine in the 1970’s faced a major transformation and many of the homes that stand today were built. The new town was originally built on the focus of pedestrianisation. This makes the town perfect for those with families. In the 1980’s the town further developed with larger semi-detached and detached homes being built.
